As soon as you
arrive at the ITAC Study Abroad Center, your choice, our staff gives an oral
and written test in order to accurately determine your level of Spanish. Our
class contains a maximum of 10 students, the average class size is 5-8
students.
The classes are
held Monday to Thursday from 9:00 am. to 12:00 pm or
2:30 pm to 5:30 pm.
COURSES DESCRIPTIONS
All levels may be adapted to adequately prepare students to communicate
in public, as well as maintain a conversation at normal speed. Students will
learn to express their opinions and clearly state their need, likes, dislikes,
preferences, etc.
In regards to oral and written comprehension, students will
be able to read and understand up-to-date newspaper articles on economic,
political, historical, social and cultural themes, as well as prepare responses
through written comments, summaries and brief reports. Part of the program
students will practice the use of Spanish pronunciation, intonation, vocabulary
and phases in basic social and academic functions. The intensive ten (10-16)
weeks Spanish Course component of the academic program begin during semester
program.

DESCRIPTIONS OF SPANISH COURSES
1. Spanish Language Basic I, II (6-9
credits)
Basic I and II levels of Spanish as Second Language prepare the student to develop and acquire the necessary skills by using the Spanish Language in real life situations. Basic I level is designed for students that poses no knowledge of Spanish. You will learn how to form fundamental grammatical and communicative structures in Spanish, such as greetings, talking about yourself, giving and opinion, conjugating verbs in the present tense, among others skill. The practices that correspond to these first two cycles of learning include reading, comprehension, intonation and elaboration of brief texts, notes and letters. You will also acquire a basic understanding of Dominican and society culture.
The Courses of six credits are available for summer and semesters.
2. Spanish Language Intermediate I-II (6-9
credits)
Intermediate I-II, a level of Spanish prepares the student for the first
public communications and conversation at a normal rhythm. The students also
learn how to express their opinions and clearly transmit their needs,
preferences, tastes, etc. In the development of oral, written and comprehension
skills for this level, the students will read newspaper articles, that will be
interpreted by providing information about various themes: economic, political,
historical, social, cultural and prepare responses through written
commentaries, summaries and brief reports. Structural goals emphasize and focus
on areas of great complexity for better understanding and learning (uses and
verbal functions, syntactic connectors, sentences, idiomatic expressions and
proverbs, etc.)
The student you will make the leap from expressing yourself at a
functional level to achieving a certain level of fluency in the language,
accompanied by a greater compression of the Dominican way of life. By
improvising your understanding of both linguistic and extra-linguistic
structures, you will start to communicate much more effectively.
3. Spanish Language Advanced I-II (6-9
credits)
Advanced I-II, levels of Spanish has been designed to teach Spanish at
the highest degree for students with a good knowledge and skills of
comprehension. Those levels focus on the creative capacity of each student and
develop the ability to think in the Spanish language through the use of
technical and literary texts, analysis, descriptions and reports
